A few days after the military coup in Myanmar, a night curfew was imposed in seven suburbs of Mandal, the country's second-largest city, to prevent people from taking to the streets and protesting against military rule.

Some media outlets wrote that martial law was enforced in seven cities in Myanmar.

Curfew was imposed in Aung Mayay, Tharzan, Maha Ang, Amarapura, Patheyanangi, Pigitekon, Chan I Tharzan and Chan Mayay Tharzi towns. As per the order given by the chief administrator of each town, gatherings of more than five people and speeches as well as protests were banned.

Any person violating this order will be prosecuted under Section 144 of the Penal Code. The Myanmar Times reported that similar orders had been issued in several other Mandalay cities.

Demonstrations from other places are intensifying in protest of last week's change of power. Demonstrations have been going on in Napita for the last few days and this is important because the officials and their families live here and there is no tradition of demonstrations in this city. Large numbers of troops are deployed here even on normal days.

Large crowds have also gathered near the main square in Yangon, the country's largest city. Protesters chanted slogans in Yangon this morning. And the symbol of resistance saluted with three fingers.

Protesters, meanwhile, protested by displaying placards reading "Boycott of the military coup" and "Justice for Myanmar." New cases of protests erupted on Monday in the northern state of Kachin, the southeastern state of Mon, the eastern state of Shan's Tachilek city, Napita and Mandalay.

Here people organized marches and bike rallies in protest of the coup. State media, meanwhile, referred to the protests for the first time, saying they were a threat to the country's stability.
