Chamoli Rescue: 5 more bodies recovered from Tapovan mine, death toll rises to 43


- ITBP set up relief camps in many villages

The death toll from flash floods in Uttarakhand's Chamoli district on February 7 has risen to 43. The rescue operation is continuing after this tragedy. Five more bodies were recovered from the Tapovan tunnel during a rescue operation on Sunday morning, bringing the total number of people killed in the accident to 43.

Chamoli District Collector Swati S Bhadauria on Saturday said that 136 meters had been excavated in the NTPC tunnel. A body was also found on Friday. The bodies of 38 of the 204 people who went missing were found while two people were pulled out alive and rescue work is still ongoing.

The death toll has risen to 43 with 5 more bodies being recovered on Sunday morning and work to move debris, swamps from the tunnel is still ongoing. There are still suspicions that some people are trapped in the tunnel. Chamoli's public life has been disrupted since the glacier broke. After losing contact with many villages, ITBP has set up relief camps there and is providing essential items to the people.
