New Delhi, dated 12 February 2021, Friday

In Assam, various efforts are being made to woo the people ahead of the Assembly elections.

In Assam, the government has slashed petrol and diesel prices by Rs 5 a liter, amid a spate of petrol and diesel price hikes across the country. Apart from this, the duty on liquor has also been reduced by 25 per cent to make it cheaper.

Elections are to be held in four states this year, namely Assam, West Bengal, Kerala and Tamil Nadu. There is currently a BJP government in Assam. The Election Commission may announce the election dates of these four states anytime after February 15. However, the bet has already started to woo the voters.

The polls are likely to be held in six to eight phases in West Bengal, two to three phases in Assam and a single phase in Tamil Nadu and Kerala.

Meanwhile, in Assam and West Bengal, political parties have also started a whirlwind campaign in view of the elections.
