India's neighbor Myanmar has seen political upheaval. Myanmar's military has arrested coup leaders Aung San Suu Kyi and President Win Myint and imposed a state of emergency for a year. According to Myanmar military television, the army has been in control of the country for a year and power has been handed over to Army Commander-in-Chief Min Aung Hlaing.

According to a statement issued by the Myanmar army, the election was marred by fraud. At the same time, troops have been deployed in different parts of the country. Troops have been rocked outside a city hall in Yangon, Myanmar's main city, so that no one can oppose the coup.

Myanmar has been under military rule from 1962 to 2011. Elections were held for the first time in 2010 and a civilian government was formed in which a representative elected by the people had the opportunity to rule.

Several countries, including the United States and Australia, have expressed concern over the coup and called on Myanmar's military to respect the law. White House spokeswoman Jane Saki said the Burmese military had taken steps to reduce the country's democratic transition, including the arrest of State Councilor Aung San Suu Kyi and other civilian officials.

The United States has warned Myanmar's military that it opposes any attempt to change the outcome of the recent elections or to disrupt Myanmar's democratic system and will take action against those responsible if the coup does not end.
