After Ghulam Nabi Azad, Mallikarjun Khadge will be the Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha

New delhi date. 12 February 2021, Friday

Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad's term has come to an end. Since then, Mallikarjun Khadge, a senior Congress leader and former Congress leader in the Lok Sabha, has been made Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha. "Congress has informed Rajya Sabha Speaker Vainkaya Naidu that after the retirement of Ghulam Nabi, Mallikarjun Khadge will now be the Leader of Opposition from the party," Venugopal said.

Anand Sharma, the Deputy Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, also wanted him to be made the Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha. But after Sonia Gandhi's letter, which has recently raised a number of questions about the organization, the party leadership is not keen on giving her such a responsibility. So in this regard, Mallikarjun Khadge is considered close to Sonia Gandhi. Despite the defeat in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the party has given him a chance in the Rajya Sabha.

There will be no representative of Jammu and Kashmir in the Rajya Sabha after February 15. At present, there are four seats in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly. But there have been no elections since it became a union territory. So that no new member came there either. Ghulam Nabi Azad may get a chance to become the Leader of the Opposition again, but for that he will have to win the Rajya Sabha seat in Kerala again a month later.
