We are not surprised by the terrorist attack, we have been on alert for several weeks: Israeli ambassador

New Delhi, Saturday 30 January 2021

Ron Malka, Israel's ambassador to India, said he had good reason to believe it was a terrorist attack, but he was not surprised by the attack, as vigilance had been heightened for several weeks. There is also the possibility of a connection between the 2012 attack on our ambassadors here and events around the world.

When asked if the motive behind the attack was to derail Israel's peace efforts with various Arab countries. "This is a conspiracy to harm our region (West Asia)," he said.

That cannot frighten us, our peace efforts will continue, he said, adding that Israeli officials would provide all kinds of help and information to Indian officials investigating the attack.

An IED blast outside the Israeli embassy in New Delhi's Lutyens Zone on Friday evening damaged several cars.
