There is no cure for bird flu, state governments caution: Union Minister

Amid bird flu outbreaks in India, Union Animal Husbandry and Dairy Minister Sanjeev Balia has said that there is no cure for the disease, adding that state governments must be vigilant.

Sanjeev Balia further said that the disease can be transmitted from birds to humans but so far no such case has been reported. At present, cases of bird flu have been reported in five states - Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Kerala - out of which it has spread to poultry. .

He appealed to the state government to take precautionary measures to prevent bird flu. Apart from this, the movement of poultry from one place to another should be banned.

Notably, a number of birds have died so far in the above five states and bird flu is not being blamed for it.
