The BJP reshuffled some positions to reduce interference in the work of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. In particular, their wings were cut off to reduce the influence of the joint secretaries.

V Satish was made the coordinator. This is a new position that will monitor the BJP's influence on parliamentary groups and dalits. Leaders who lived in low profile were given some positions. The reshuffle was likely to affect appointees who are members of the union.

The exercise was being interpreted to mean that the Sangh's impact on the BJP would be lessened. The move was also aimed at preventing the Sangh from interfering in every function of the BJP and the government, informed sources said. V Satish will work towards increasing the BJP's reach to the Parliamentary Party, the Scheduled Caste Front and the Dalits.

Joint Secretary Saudan Singh was made National Vice President. He will stay in Chandigarh to monitor the activities of the BJP in Haryana, Punjab, Chandigarh and Himachal Pradesh and take necessary steps. These regions are important for the BJP.

Another joint secretary Shiv Prakash will also be in the post but his tenure was extended. Shiv Prakash will stay in Bhopal to monitor the BJP's activities in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and West Bengal and take necessary steps.

These changes are not of an extreme level. The Sangh should not feel that the BJP is 100 per cent separate from the Sangh. But vigilance was maintained to give equal importance to the Sangh as well as the BJP leaders.

Informed sources claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Amit Shah were also taking precautionary measures to seek the consent of the Union to implement the changes.
