Internet ban affects 50 million users in Delhi-NCR

New delhi date. Wednesday 27 January 2021

About 50 million users have been affected by the shutdown of internet service in Delhi NCR. The home ministry has banned the internet in some parts of the capital. Internet users remained in trouble for several hours after that. The Home Ministry has shut down internet services in and around Sindhu, Ghazipur, Tikri, Mukarba Chowk, Nangloi and surrounding areas of the NCT following a stampede during a farmers' tractor rally.

Although the home ministry has not issued specific guidelines on internet services, mobile or home broadband, users in a large part of the city are having difficulty using the internet.

According to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India, there are about 52.72 million mobile users in Delhi as on October. Apart from this, Delhi also has a large number of wire line broadband users which is more than the mobile users.

Telecommunications companies have also informed their customers in most parts of the city that internet services in their areas have been suspended until further notice. The Home Ministry order was in effect until 23:59 pm on January 26 but the situation is still uncertain, with fears that the order banning internet services in the capital could be extended.
