Violence, floods and Corona: Four countries in the world in dire straits, landslides kill scores

New delhi date. 24 December 2020, Thursday

The Corona virus has caused upheavals around the world in the last one year. There is not a single country where Corona has not robbed people of their livelihood. There are some countries that were already miserable and came to Corona which has made their situation worse. Apart from this, the United Nations has warned that there is a possibility of severe drought in some countries in the near future. These include parts of South Sudan, including Yemen, Burkina Faso and Nigeria.

The worst situation will be in South Sudan. Violence has long been rampant in South Sudan. Then came the flood and now the condition of the people has become pitiable because of the Corona. People do not have a livelihood. The government system has also gone into a tailspin. The government doesn’t even have the money.

The Pibor County area of South Sudan has faced horrific violence and severe flooding this year. Seven families living in the country's Lekuangole city told the media that 13 of their children died of starvation between February and November this year. Apart from this, another 17 children have died of starvation in the surrounding area in just three months.

A report released by the United Nations has called for an immediate end to hostilities in South Sudan. It said South Sudan was currently facing a "premature situation". Which means 20 per cent of the country's households do not get enough food. In addition, 30 percent of South Sudanese children are malnourished. However, the South Sudanese government disagrees.

Sudan is currently struggling to recover from a five-year civil war. On the other hand, the crisis has been exacerbated by floods and the Corona. Constant violence and war have led to starvation. The government is not at all serious about what is happening, he told the World Peace Foundation. Not only that but the Sudanese government is ignoring everything.
