There were shocking news that the world's most powerful telescope had been destroyed. This telescope, which used to inform the whole world about asteroids and aliens, is no more.

One of the cables of this antenna broke last month. The entire antenna tower collapsed on Tuesday. This is the same observatory where the James Bond film Golden Eye was shot.

Called the Arcibo Observatory, the telescope was housed in Puerto Rico and provided the world with information on meteors, asteroids and aliens. It is jointly managed by Ana de Mendes University, the National Science Foundation and the University of Florida.

The observatory had a 1007-foot-two-inch-diameter antenna that provided the world with information on what was happening in space. This antenna had 40 thousand panels made of aluminum. It was known as the Arsibo radar. The idea to build the observatory first came to Cornell University professor William Gordon. The construction of this observatory also began in 1960. Three years later, the work was completed in 1963. It has been working tirelessly ever since.
