Sonia Gandhi convened a meeting of senior leaders to discuss other issues besides the permanent chairperson

- The first meeting after 23 leaders wrote a letter

New Delhi Dated 18th December 2020 Friday

Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi convened a meeting of senior party leaders on Saturday. This will be the first meeting with senior leaders since 23 party leaders wrote a letter to Sonia a few months ago on the issue of party elections and permanent president.

In this meeting, Sonia will discuss various issues, especially with the disgruntled senior leaders of the party. Four months ago, 23 senior leaders led by Shashi Tharoor, Kapil Sibal, Ghulam Nabi Azad and others wrote a letter to Sonia Gandhi demanding elections to the party and a permanent president.

The issue of this letter caused a great deal of tension in the Congress executive. Leaders like Ghulam Nabi Azad were also accused of being pro-BJP. Realizing that Azad's feelings were dulled by such allegations, Sonia called him and tried to persuade him.

Senior party leader Kamal Nath recently met Sonia in person and suggested that all party leaders should be persuaded to stay together when the country's five state assembly elections are scheduled for 2021. It was as if Sonia had called a meeting on Saturday. It was learned that other issues would also be discussed at the meeting.
