Accused of rape in Maharashtra will be sentenced to death. The Cabinet of Ministers approved the proposal.

However, life imprisonment, large fines and other punishments were also added to the proposal. The law, known as the Shakti Act, also provided Rs 10 lakh from the state government to acid victims if they want to get a new face through plastic surgery. That amount will be recovered from the accused.

The proposal will be tabled in the Assembly as soon as possible, announced Home Minister Anil Deshmukh.

The urgency to complete the case within thirty days under the Shakti Act was also added. Deshmukh said that as the law is strict, criminals will be afraid of it and the sisters of the state will be safe.
