On Sunday, the 19th anniversary of the 2001 terrorist attack on Parliament, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and several other senior leaders paid tributes to the martyrs.

PM Modi tweeted that the country will never forget the cowardly attack on Parliament on this very day in 2001. The country will always remember the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the protection of Parliament. India will always be grateful to those martyrs.

Home Minister Amit Shah wrote on his Twitter account, "I pay my respects to the heroic grandsons of Maa Bharti who fought with the enemy in the cowardly terrorist attack on the Parliament House, the temple of democracy in 2001." The grateful nation will always be indebted to your immortal sacrifice.

Terrorists from Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed opened fire on Parliament on the same day 19 years ago, killing nine people. The army killed all the militants in retaliation.

The dead included five Delhi Police personnel, a female Central Reserve Police Force personnel, a watch and ward personnel stationed at the Parliament premises and a gardener. A photojournalist was also killed in the firing.
