More than fifty percent of the vehicles running on the country's roads run without insurance. The highest number of such vehicles was found to be two wheelers.

A report released by the Insurance Information Bureau (IIB) revealed these shocking details. The report further states that there are fifteen states where more than 60 per cent of vehicle owners have not taken out insurance.

Thus, under the Motor Vehicle Act, it is mandatory for every holder to have insurance for two wheeler or car. But as per the March 2019 report of IIB, more than fifty percent of vehicle owners do not have insurance. That is why when an accident occurs, the driver understands that it is in his best interest to flee as soon as possible.

As of March 2019, 57 per cent of the vehicles running on the country's roads did not have insurance. A total of 231.2 million vehicles were running on the country's roads during that period. In 2018, 54% of vehicle owners did not have insurance.
