Kolkata, Thursday 17 December 2020

The ruling Trinamool Congress is facing one setback after another in the first phase of the West Bengal Assembly elections. Mamata Banerjee has resigned, while MLA Jitendra Tiwari has also resigned from the party.

Asansol MLA and former city mayor Jitendra Tiwari accused the state government of politicizing the funds being received from the Center. He also refused to meet state Urban Development Minister Firhad Hakeem on Tuesday, saying he would only talk to Mamata Banerjee, Jitendra Tiwari said. He alleged that the state government was not allowing Asansol Municipal Corporation to use the funds received from the Center due to politics.

Influential leader Shubhendu Adhikari, who resigned as MLA on Wednesday, has also resigned from the party. The official wrote a letter to Trinamool Congress leader Mamata Banerjee informing her of her decision to resign from the party's primary membership.
