Home Minister Amit Shah announces implementation of CAA in Kolkata

- Letter sent to three Bengali IPS officers is constitutional

Kolkata, Monday, December 21, 2020

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday announced in Kolkata that the implementation of the CAA would begin as soon as the Corona's momentum subsides.

He said there are thousands of illegal intruders in the country. This may include some terrorists or their accomplices. Therefore, early implementation of CAA is in the interest of the country. He also claimed that the letter sent by the Center to West Bengal IPS officers in connection with the attack on BJP president JP Nadda's car convoy in West Bengal was unconstitutional.

It may be recalled here that West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had ordered the officials not to heed the Centre's letter and not to go to Delhi. Mamata claimed that the letter was an interference in the functioning of the state government. IPES officials were left in a quandary following his order. Mamata's behavior was in conflict with the center.

Shah was speaking at a press conference after a massive rally in Bolpur on Sunday. Asked when he was going to implement the CAA, he said it was delayed because of Corona. The implementation of the CAA will be expedited as the corona is relaxed.
