Fastag mandatory from 1st in the whole country: Gadkari

New Delhi, Dt

Fastag is being made mandatory at toll booths for all vehicles across the country from January 1, 2021. This facility will be beneficial for the tourists as they will not have to stop at the toll booths for cash payment, time saving and fuel, said Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari.

The Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has made it mandatory to affix Fastag on every vehicle from January 1 to promote digital payments. From January 1, you will have to pay a hefty price if you reach the toll plaza on the National Highway without fastening on cars or large vehicles. Double toll will be levied on vehicles without fastags passing through the National Highway. However, Fastag is only for National Highways. Fastag will not work on toll plazas on state highways. There will also be a lane for vehicles without fastags at the toll plaza, where only normal tolls will be charged.

Fastag is a tag based on radio frequency identification, which will appear on the windscreen of a vehicle. This fastag on vehicles can be read electronically. The cameras on the toll plaza will be able to scan it and the amount of the toll plaza will be deducted automatically. You don't have to stop paying fees at Tolnaka. Fastag can be recharged like mobile with online payment mode. Apart from this, Fastag can also be recharged through My Fastag app or NetBanking.
