Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar on Monday advised journalism students not to get caught up in sensational and TRP-centric journalism. Union Minister Prakash Javadekar said TRP-centric journalism was not good. The meters installed in 50,000 homes cannot measure the votes of 22 crore people.

Inaugurating the Orientation Program for the session 2020-21 at the Indian Institute of Mass Communication, Union Minister Prakash Javadekar said, "Journalism is a responsibility, not a tool to mislead the people." No drama or sensation is needed if your story is based on facts.

The Union Minister also emphasized on ensuring healthy journalism skills, saying that whatever is going well in the society, they also have a place in the news.

Union Minister Prakash Javadekar lamented the lack of positive stories in the media. He said that there are many good creative stories in the society but sadly no one in the media has time to publish them.

Discussing constructive journalism, the Union Minister said that there has been no black market of fertilizers since the introduction of neem coating. Regular accidents at unmanned railway crossings have been prevented. Railways have also undergone drastic changes on the sanitation front. About 5,000 railway stations now have Wi-Fi facilities and about 100 airports across the country are proving to be beneficial.

Earlier, former IIMC Director General Professor Sanjay Dwivedi welcomed Union Minister Prakash Javadekar at the event. Satish students of ADG informed about IIMC.
