Landline users will now have to add 0 (zero) before ten mobile numbers to make a call from a landline phone to a mobile phone soon. The Department of Telecom has directed the telecom companies to set up the necessary mechanisms to implement the new system from January 1.

Earlier, the telecom department had accepted TRAI's recommendation to add zero to call from landline phones to mobiles. This decision will allow the telecom service to have enough space for numbering.

The Department of Telecom (DOT) said in a circular titled 'Modification of Dialing Patterns from Fixed Line Numbers to Cellular Mobile Numbers' that TRAI has accepted the recommendation made on May 29, 2020 to ensure adequate number of resources for fixed line and mobile service. .

The Department of Telecom has said in a circular dated November 20 that all telecom companies will have to set up the necessary arrangements to start implementing the new system from January 1.

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) had in May this year recommended the addition of a mobile phone number zero for landline to mobile calls. TRAI said the change in dialing pattern would make additional 254.4 crore additional additional numbering resources available.
