India is making rapid efforts to increase its military strength amid ongoing tensions with its two neighbors Pakistan and China.

The Indian Navy today received a new state-of-the-art Scorpion class submarine. The fifth Scorpion class submarine has joined the Army fleet. The Wagir submarine was launched today. It was inaugurated by Minister of State for Defense Shripad Naik.

The name Wagir is derived from a predatory fish found in the Indian Ocean. The first Wagir submarine was made in Russia and served in the Navy from 1973 to 2001, after which it was retired. It is equipped with state-of-the-art technology to evade enemy radar. The submarine is equipped with torpedoes to hunt down enemy submarines.

India is to add 6 Scorpion class submarines to the Army under Project-75. A fifth of these submarines has been added. The project has been running between India and France since 2005. The sixth submarine INS Wagshir is also to be found by the Navy very soon.

Because of its sophisticated technology it will act as a silent killer.
