- We are not afraid of terrorism, the government announced

A bomb blast near the Austrian capital, Vienna, has killed at least seven people and injured dozens more.

The attack came just hours before the lockdown was announced following Corona's rise. "We are not afraid of terrorism," Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz said hours after the attack. We have been the victims of a heinous terrorist attack in Vienna. One militant has been shot dead but another was still active.

Kurz added that the terrorists had the latest weapons. It showed how well prepared they were. Police said they received the first news of the attack at 8pm local time on Monday. The shootings took place in six areas of the capital. A video clip was leaked showing the assailant firing haphazardly on the road with the latest weapon. The cause of the attack was not immediately known.

Chancellor Kurz expressed the view that the attack could be anti-Semitic. The bomber struck shortly after noon in front of a Jewish shrine. However the shrine was closed when the attack took place.

Austrian Interior Minister Carl Nehmar said the army had been ordered to arrive to protect key sites. He told Viennese not to send your children to school on Tuesday. You also stay at home except for the unavoidable work.
