Tantra alert for hurricane 'prevention', warning of heavy rains with strong winds

Cyclone Nivar is likely to hit coastal areas of Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry during Tuesday and Thursday. It is said that the storm will cross the coast of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry on November 25, with wind speeds of 100 to 120 kmph during this time, according to the meteorological department. In such a situation, alerts have been issued in many areas of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry and fishermen have been advised not to go to sea.

The NCMC, headed by Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gauba, directed all those involved in the work to continue the work so that no casualties were reported due to the cyclone and the situation in the affected areas was restored as soon as possible. Relief preparations were reviewed by video conference, which also included the chief secretaries of Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.

As a precaution, bus services will be suspended in Pudukottai, Nagai, Thanjavur, Thiruvarur, Cuddalore, Villupuram and Chengalpattu 7 districts from 1 pm on Tuesday. In the above districts, people are advised to stay indoors on November 24 and November 25.

The Chief Secretaries briefed the NCMC on their preparations. They also briefed them on coordination with the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and other agencies to meet the challenge. The Director General of the Meteorological Department of India has said that the current situation is being reported to the states.

Fear of flooding in coastal cities

Coastal cities in Tamil Nadu are likely to experience strong winds along with thunderstorms with heavy rains from Pamban to Chennai on November 24 and 25. During this period, coastal cities are prone to flooding in many areas and stormy winds can cause hailstorms with heavy rainfall.

The cyclone between November 24 and 26 is likely to affect coastal areas of Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. The meeting stressed the need to strictly enforce the directive not to allow fishermen to enter the sea, the statement said.
