Fasttag mandatory in every vehicle from January: Lines at toll booths will be reduced

The vehicle will get a fitness certificate only if there is a fast tag

The government has already set up a fasttag facility to remove long lines at toll booths. Fasttag will now be mandatory on all tollbooths across the country from January 2021. This means that all vehicles passing through the tollbooth must have a fast tag.

If there is no tag, the vehicle will have difficulty passing. Fasttag is an electronic sticker affixed to a vehicle that deducts toll money directly from the vehicle holder's account.

This important decision was taken by the Union Ministry of Road Transport. At present, 80 per cent of vehicles passing through the toll booths of the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) have fasttags. The advantage of Fasttag is that the vehicle does not have to wait long at the toll plaza and can get out of there immediately.

However, many toll booths in India lack basic facilities and even fasttag vehicles cannot pass easily. Many real tollbooths are run clumsily. A vehicle without a fasttag will also not be given a fitness certificate. Fast tags will also be required during third party insurance.

Fasttags were made mandatory in newly sold vehicles after December 2017. But this rule will now apply to earlier vehicles. The National Electronic Toll Collection Division of the Ministry of Transport is working to implement this decision in toll plazas across the country. FastTag collects Rs 92 crore in taxes in India every day.

Fasttag can be purchased online or from 23 banks designated by the government. Such tags are also sold at the Road Transport Authority office. Due to this rule, it is now imperative that all vehicles passing through the toll booths be fitted with fast tags. In addition to the license, a vehicle registration certificate is required for the purchase of Fasttag.
