Declare Netaji's birthday a national holiday: Mamata Banerjee's letter to PM

Kolkata, Ta. 18 November 2020, Wednesday

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In it, he has demanded that January 23 be declared a national holiday on the anniversary of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. At the same time, Mamata Banerjee has demanded an inquiry into what happened to Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose and for the Prime Minister to take decisive action and make the matter public. Earlier, Prime Minister Modi had released documents related to Subhash Chandra Bose. He also met Netaji's family.

"You are well aware that the 125th birth anniversary of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose will be celebrated on May 23, 2022," Mamata Banerjee said in the letter. Netaji, the great grandson of Bengal, was a hero of the country, a national leader and the face of the freedom struggle against the British Raj. They are ideal for many generations. Under his leadership, thousands of brave soldiers of the Indian National Army made the highest sacrifices for the motherland.

He further wrote that every year Netaji's birthday is celebrated with great dignity and faith all over the country. You may recall how long we have been demanding the Central Government to declare Netaji's birthday a national holiday. However, no decision has been taken yet. To honor our great leader and the hero of the country, we reiterate our demand to declare January 23 a national holiday.
