The BJP's victory in Telangana, like Bihar, in the country's by-elections in ten states sparked a nationwide debate. It is safe to say that the BJP has not yet made inroads in the southern states.

However, the BJP won the Dubak assembly seat by a slim majority. His party, the Telangana Rashtra Samiti party, was shocked to learn that the magic of Chandrasekhar Rao, a leader fighting for a separate Telangana state, could not please local voters this time.

This political party used to consider Telangana as its Bapiki Jagir. The seat fell vacant following the sudden death of TRS MLA S Ramalinga Reddy in August this year. TRS was constantly under the illusion that this seat was ours. M M Raghunandan Rao of BJP stood against S Sujata, wife of TRS candidate Sadgat S Ramalinga Reddy. TRS has consistently maintained that victory is for us.

Amidst constant tussle, TRS was also preparing for the victory celebrations. TRS was shocked when M Raghunandan Rao was declared the winner with 1039 (one thousand forty nine) votes after a continuous tussle. When Dubbak won the seat, the Prime Minister himself called from Delhi and congratulated Raghunandan Rao. "I publicly thank the people of Telangana for blessing the BJP," the Prime Minister wrote on Twitter.
