After a resounding victory in Bihar, the eyes of BJP leaders were now on West Bengal. The state sends 42 MPs which is two more than Bihar.

BJP leaders believe that there is anti-Mamata Banerjee sentiment in Bengal at present. The BJP was planning how to cash in on it. BJP's Chanakya Manata Union Home Minister Amit Shah recently paid a two-day visit to West Bengal. He had persuaded the Trinamool Congress dissidents to join the BJP and if the rumors were true, Mamata's number two Shubhendu government would abandon the Trinamool Congress at any time.

Overcoming Mamata, Shubhendu held a rally in Nandigram on Wednesday and while completing the rally, shouted slogans of Bharatmata Ki Jai over Mamata. Apart from Shubhendu, a total of four ministers did not attend the meeting convened by Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday.

One group of BJP leaders believes that Bihar's election victory will not have any effect on Bengal, but all groups agree that Bihar's results will boost the enthusiasm of BJP workers in Bengal. The fact that Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed dozens of rallies in Bihar may also be encouraging for BJP leaders and activists in Bengal. There was a belief among Bengali activists that if Modi addressed so many rallies in Bihar, he would address them in Bengal as well.

Bengal has assembly elections in 2021. The BJP had planned to win 200 seats in Bengal. In Bihar alone, the BJP won 74 seats, more than the ruling JD (U).
