Beginning of winter from Jammu and Kashmir to Rajasthan

New Delhi, November 8, 2020, Tuesday

Mercury reached zero degrees in Mount Abu, the only mountainous place in Rajasthan bordering Gujarat. Usually after Diwali the onset of cold is gradual. Due to the lack of cold, farmers are also waiting for the planting of rabi crops but this year the cold is deploying rapidly. Mercury has started falling from Kashmir to the deserts of Rajasthan. Not only Mount Abu but also various districts of Rajasthan are getting cold. According to the weather department, Mount Abu's mercury had reached a freezing point last Sunday. The minimum night temperature was recorded at 7.8 degrees in Chunru, 3.0 degrees in Bhilwara, 4.5 degrees in Sikar, 7.5 degrees in Chittorgarh and 7.5 degrees in Ganganagar. As far as Jammu and Kashmir is concerned, an orange alert has been issued in the areas above Sonmarg Jojila Ghat on the Srinagar-Leh road.

Some parts of Kashmir are experiencing light to heavy snowfall. Gulmarg in north Kashmir received an average of four inches of snow overnight. Pahalgam in south Kashmir received 10 cm of snowfall. Temperatures are likely to drop further and affect other parts of the country as snow continues to fall in the highlands. According to the information received, the Mughal Road, an alternative route connecting Srinagar with Leh Marg to Kashmir, has also been closed. Even in Ladakh, it has been getting colder for the last one week. Modern tents have been set up near the Line of Control to go to India. It may be recalled that the Indian troops would also stay in the freezing cold to defend the country's land by confronting the Chinese army in eastern Ladakh. This is an area where up to 40 feet of snow falls and the temperature drops to minus 40 to minus 40 degrees.

After the avalanche and landslide in Ramvan district in Jammu and Kashmir, the connection with the highway has been cut off. More than 200 vehicles are stuck on the road due to the closure of the highway. Our Jawar has also been closed after an avalanche near Jawahar Tunnel. The local administration has instructed the people to travel only after getting information in advance and knowing the condition of the roads. North India is also starting to get cold.
