All types of fireworks banned in Delhi, decision taken due to uncontrollable pollution

- The government took note of the fact that Corona was on the rise

New Delhi, 6 November 2020, Friday

Arvind Kejriwal's government had banned the manufacture or detonation of all types of fireworks on Diwali in view of the rampant pollution in the capital New Delhi on the one hand and the rapidly rising Corona case on the other.

The air quality index in the capital has crossed the alarming 400 mark in the last three to four days. Naturally, Kejriwal's worries were heightened when it had not yet subsided. Corona's case, on the other hand, continued to grow. In these circumstances, the Kejriwal government had banned all types of fireworks before the situation became uncontrollable.

A government spokesperson said Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal held a meeting with the chief secretary, district magistrate and police chief and reviewed the situation. A ban on fireworks was then decided. The ban will be in force from tomorrow i.e. from November 7 to November 30. It is worth remembering that even before this, the government had announced a fine of Rs one lakh and / or five years imprisonment for catching firecrackers with high pollution.
