Why has Savarkar not received the Bharat Ratna so far? : Shiv Sena's retaliation against BJP

BJP has targeted Maharashtra Chief Minister and Shiv Sena leader Uddhav Thackeray over the Shiv Sena's silence on the Congress' criticism of Vinayak Damodar Savarkar. In response to which now Shiv Sena has retaliated. Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut has asked the BJP why the BJP has not given the Bharat Ratna to Veer Savarkar yet. Shiv Sena chief spokesperson Sanjay Raut told reporters that Hindutva ideologue Veer Savarkar should receive the country's highest honor, the Bharat Ratna.

On Sunday, during the Shiv Sena's annual Dussehra rally due to the Koro epidemic this year, party president and chief minister Uddhav Thackeray addressed Savarkar Hall in Dadar instead of Shivaji Park. Maharashtra has a coalition government of Shiv Sena, Congress and NCP. Regarding the Congress' criticism of Savarkar, the BJP spokesperson targeted the Shiv Sena, saying that Uddhav Thackeray had not uttered a single word on the Congress government's criticism of Savarkar and now he had to address the Savarkar Hall. The BJP has alleged that the Shiv Sena has compromised with Hindutva for power.

In reply, Sanjay Raut said that Shiv Sena has never been silent on the issue of joining Savarkar and will not remain silent. He further said that one should look at history to understand the Shiv Sena's attitude towards Savarkar. Veer Savarkar has always been a proponent of Shiv Sena and Hindutva. Why don't those who are questioning us give Bharat Ratna to Savarkar?
