West Bengal: BJP leader shot dead in front of police station, tensions rise in Titagarh

BJP leader Manish Shukla was shot dead by unidentified miscreants late Sunday night in West Bengal's North 24 Parganas district. Shukla's murder took place in front of the Titagarh police station in the district, after which there is a lot of tension in the area.

Considering the seriousness of the incident, a large number of police force has been deployed here since midnight. On the other hand, the BJP has called for a shutdown in the state's Barakpore. Seeing the seriousness of the case, Governor Jaideep Ghankhade has summoned all the officials, including the region's DGP, to Raj Bhavan today to discuss law and order issues.

It is said that area councilor Manish Shukla was sitting in the office set up in front of Titagarh police station at 8.30 pm on Sunday. Meanwhile, the bike-riding assailants reached there and fired indiscriminately at them.

Manish Shukla, who was critically injured in the attack, was earlier shifted to BN Bose Hospital in Barakpore. He was later referred to Apollo Hospital where doctors on duty declared him dead.

Another youth was also seriously injured in the incident. The West Bengal BJP has called for a 12-hour shutdown in Barakpore in protest of the incident.
