The date for filing IT returns for taxpayers has been extended to December 31

New delhi date. 24. Saturday 2020 October

The government has extended the deadline for filing income tax returns for individual taxpayers to December 31, an announcement was made by the finance ministry today.

The ministry said the time limit for filing income tax returns has been extended to January 31 for taxpayers whose accounts are to be audited. However, as per the new announcement, the time limit for taxpayers filing individual returns has been extended to December 31.

This time, the two-month lockdown imposed by Corona brought economic activity to a standstill. The government has tried to give some relief to taxpayers by doubling the time limit for filing income tax returns when the country was also under curfew for two months.

However, the slowdown in the economy due to Corona will be a challenge for the income tax department to meet its tax collection target. Tax collection may also decline this time.
