Rs 10,000 fine for feeding dogs, IIT authorities warn students

Chennai, October 25, 2020, Sunday

IIT Madras, one of the country's top educational institutions, is currently embroiled in a tussle between students and authorities over dogs.

Authorities are disturbed by the growing population of dogs on the IIT campus in Madras. A few days ago, the dogs tore a deer off the campus. Authorities are in the mood to chase the dogs off campus and students are protesting. Students are now being warned by the authorities. That is, a student who feeds stray dogs on campus will be fined Rs 10,000.

However, the students are not in the mood to lean on the issue. They are campaigning on social media for support against the decision of the IIT authorities. The alumnus of the institute has even written a letter to MP Maneka Gandhi and the Animal Welfare Board on the issue and demanded intervention.

The students are saying that we have not committed any crime by feeding the hungry dogs during the lockdown. The students also say that the dogs have never caused any trouble.
