Accused of rape in Bangladesh will be sentenced to death. Bangladesh's cabinet on Monday ratified a resolution in this regard

Earlier, in Bangladesh, rape was punishable by a maximum of life imprisonment. As the incidence of rape increased, protests against it began across the country and there was a nationwide demand for harsher punishment for the rapist.

The Bangladeshi government has said that President Abdul Hamid will issue a new ordinance at any time. According to a report by the Human Rights Union of Bangladesh, the incidence of rape in Bangladesh has increased dramatically in the last few years. There were a thousand rapes between January and September this year. Five of the crimes were gangrape.

The rising crime against women was thus a source of great anger in the minds of men and this anger was often expressed through public demonstrations. A recent incident sparked nationwide outrage. A video clip released on social media showed some people stripping a woman naked. The accused in the case had been gangraping the woman for the past one year.

As soon as the video clip was released, women and students took to the streets and demanded the death penalty for the rapists. As pressure mounted on Monday, Bangladesh's national cabinet approved a proposal to sentence the rapist to death. Now the President will issue an ordinance in this regard.
