Ayodhya police on Tuesday night forcibly removed Mahant Paramahansa Das from the ascetic camp, who had gone on a fast unto death with a demand to declare the country a Hindu nation, on the orders of the district administration. Mahant, who had been fasting for the last eight days, had lost nine kilograms of weight and looked weak.

The health of the abbot was also adversely affected. All attempts to persuade him failed. For the past two days, there have been rumors that the district administration will take stern action against the mahant. He was forcibly picked up by police around 11.30pm on Tuesday night.

The police were in plain clothes. Earlier, he had requested Mahantashri to stay in the ambulance. But Mahantashri did not believe. Eventually, he was forcibly removed by police and taken to an ambulance. Mahantashree's supporters who were present there shouted "Ho ha" and harshly criticized the district administration.

Mahantashree was constantly demanding that the country should be declared a Hindu nation in a situation where the country has a Hindu population of more than 70 per cent and minorities are constantly attacking the majority.
