Balia's fugitive killer gets Rs 75,000 reward, killed in the presence of DSM and police officers

Police in Ballia, Uttar Pradesh, on Thursday announced a reward of Rs 75,000 for information leading to the capture of Dhirendra Pratap Singh, who was shot dead in broad daylight in the presence of a district magistrate and senior police officials.

As a result of the incident, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath immediately suspended seven policemen, including a district magistrate and an officer, and ordered an inquiry into the incident. The killer, Dhirendra Pratap Singh, had been claiming to be a BJP member since 2011 and was considered a special man for the BJP MLA in the area.

Police on Friday arrested Dhirendra Pratap Singh's two brothers Devendra Pratap Singh and Narendra Pratap Singh. Both are notorious criminals. Prizes of Rs. Azamgarh Deputy Inspector General of Police Subhash Chandra Dubey told the media that police had arrested five people and announced a reward for information leading to the escape. There was silence at the scene on Friday. The entire Durjanpur village was turned into a police camp.

The state BJP claimed that Dhirendra Pratap Singh was not a member of the BJP. However, Dhirendra has been claiming on Facebook since 2011 that he is an active member of the BJP. The Congress, SP and BSP had sharply criticized the BJP after Thursday's incident. Oppositions had alleged that heinous crimes were being committed in broad daylight, especially in the reign of Yogi Adityanath.
