Africa: 8 children killed, 12 injured in indiscriminate school shootings

Cameroon, 25 October 2020, Sunday

Eight children have been killed after gunmen opened fire on a school in the African nation of Cameroon.

Another 12 children were injured in the attack, six of them in critical condition, as they were shot at close range by gunmen, police said. Nine gunmen killed the children between the ages of nine and 12.

Cameroonian President Moussa Mahamet also lamented the incident, saying "I have no words to condemn the attack targeting children. There is little to condemn the incident." The school was targeted by gunmen from a separatist group.

To escape the terrorists, some children started jumping from the second floor of the school by opening the windows, in which some children were also injured. Separatist groups have also targeted schools in the past.

Police say the school was operating illegally, otherwise security measures would have been taken.
