Yogesh Tyagi, vice-chancellor of Delhi University, was ousted by President Ram Nath Kovid on Wednesday. Since the formation of Narendra Modi's government at the Center, there have been cases of removal of at least eleven Vice-Chancellors before the end of their term.

Some of these vice-chancellors were chosen by Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself. Such as Jawaharlal Kaul of Uttarakhand University. He was appointed by the Modi government itself. He was relocated in December 2017.

An inquiry was also ordered into the administration of Yogesh Tyagi, who was sacked on Wednesday. So far, eleven vice-chancellors have been fired or forced to resign. Some vice-chancellors were put on leave. He could not return to his post.

Six of the eleven vice-chancellors were appointed by the Modi government itself. Sushant Dattagupta, the Vice Chancellor of the world famous Visva-Bharati University, was removed on February 15, 2016. He was, however, appointed by Manmohan Singh's UPA government. Pranab Mukherjee was the President at that time. Similarly, Chandra Krishnamurthy, vice-chancellor of Pondicherry University, appointed by the UPA government, was sacked on charges of academic fraud.
