- Tensions in Karnataka BJP had been going on for many days
New Delhi / Bengaluru 23rd September 2020 Wednesday
Speculation was rife that Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa's position was in jeopardy. The five Karnataka ministers held a meeting on the issue last night and discussed who would be the next chief minister if Yeddyurappa left.
There has been talk in Karnataka for the last several days that Yeddyurappa's departure was certain. However it was not clear what factor was at work behind this speculation. There are many cases of corona in Karnataka at present. The five ministers held a meeting at Sudhakar's bungalow last night to discuss the issue.
Apart from Sudhakar, BS Patil, Anand Singh, Somashekhar and (Independent MLA) Nagesh were present at the meeting. It may be recalled that when Siddaramaiah's government fell, many of his allies joined Yeddyurappa. Yeddyurappa gave the ministry to many such defectors. Now, if Yeddyurappa himself does not remain the chief minister, the fate of the MLAs who joined him by switching parties has become a topic of discussion.
Earlier, more than one local media outlet in Karnataka had reported that Yeddyurappa was leaving. At the time, the BJP had denied the reports. Karnataka BJP spokesperson Ganesh Karthik had repeatedly denied the allegations.
But now the speculation was getting brighter. There was also the issue of his growing age behind giving leave to Yeddyurappa. Besides, many of his ministers were angry with him. The BJP wants to strengthen its position in the state by changing its leadership before the Assembly elections.
