UN faces crisis of confidence without comprehensive reforms: PM Modi


New delhi date. Tuesday 22 September 2020

Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a high-level meeting of the UNGA late Monday night on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the United Nations. Meanwhile, PM Modi said that the horrors of war 75 years ago gave birth to a new hope.

For the first time in human history an organization was created for the whole world. As the founding signatory of the United Nations Charter, India was part of that great vision.

He also said that the United Nations itself needs to be reformed. We cannot fight today's challenges with old structures. Without comprehensive reforms, there is a crisis of confidence in the United Nations.

The Prime Minister said that it reflected India's vision of 'Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam' which sees the world as one family. PM Modi said that our world is in a better place today because of the United Nations. We pay tribute to all those who worked for peace and development and contributed to its peace campaigns under the United Nations flag. In which India was the leading contributor.

PM Modi said that the advertisements or work we do today are accepted. However there is still much work to be done on issues such as preventing conflict, ensuring growth, climate change, reducing inequality and taking advantage of digital technology.

He said that under these announcements and actions, the United Nations itself needs to be reformed. We cannot fight today's challenges with old structures. Without comprehensive reforms, there is a crisis of confidence in the United Nations.
