The Supreme Court issued a sop to initiate a physical hearing on an experimental basis

(PTI) New delhi date. 21

The Supreme Court has issued Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for a physical hearing to be initiated on an experimental basis following appeals from various lawyers' associations.

The Supreme Court has been hearing the case through video conferencing since March 4 in the wake of the Koro epidemic. Even after the lockdown was lifted, the Supreme Court continued to hold hearings only through video conferencing.

A seven-judge committee headed by Justice NV Ramana earlier this month reviewed various lawyers 'associations' demand for resumption of physical hearings and recommended a physical hearing to Chief Justice of India SA Bobde on an experimental basis subject to conditions and rules.

However, it has not been announced when the physical hearing will be started on an experimental basis. Issuing the SOP, Supreme Court Secretary General Sanjeev S Kalgaonkar said the physical hearing would be started in three courtrooms on a pilot basis in the form of a pilot scheme.

The number of court rooms will then be increased or decreased depending on the situation.
