The government will consider withdrawing the suspension if the suspended MPs apologize

New Delhi, 22 September 2020, Tuesday

The government has taken an aggressive stance on the issue of withdrawing the suspension of eight opposition MPs who had rallied in Parliament to oppose the agriculture bill.

Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said the government would consider withdrawing the suspension after the MPs apologized.

On Tuesday, the Congress and other opposition parties boycotted the Rajya Sabha proceedings, with Ravi Shankar Prasad making the statement.

"We hoped that the Congress would oppose the behavior of the Opposition MPs. What kind of politics is this ... There is a tweet from abroad and the MPs are behaving like this," Prasad said.

Ravi Shankar Prasad was referring to Rahul Gandhi, who is currently abroad for treatment of his mother Sonia Gandhi.

"I have never seen an MP climb on a Rajya Sabha table and dance and tear up documents," Prasad said.
