New delhi date. Thursday 24 September 2020

The Delhi Bar Council (BCD) has asked senior legislator Prashant Bhushan to appear before the court on October 23 on the issue of contempt of court. The court imposed a symbolic fine of Rs one on Bhushan. The Bar Council of India had on September 6 sent Bhushan's case to the Delhi Bar Council for deliberation and a decision on the law.

The Delhi Bar Council has asked Prashant Bhushan why it should not initiate proceedings to cancel his registration as a lawyer convicted of an alleged controversial tweet against the judiciary.

Bhushan has been asked to appear before the Supreme Court on October 23 at 4 pm in person or through a lawyer or video conferencing as his official representative. Bhushan will have to respond to the Bar Council within 15 days of receiving the notice.

Prashant Bhushan said that he has received the above notice from the Delhi Bar Council. If Bhushan does not appear on the appointed day, unilateral action will be taken.
