PM Modi congratulates farmers on passing agriculture bill, says farmers get freedom from intermediaries

Two bills related to agriculture were passed in the Rajya Sabha today. The Agricultural Products Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Simplification) Bill, 2020 and the Farmer (Empowerment and Security) Price Assurance Agreement and the Agricultural Services Bill, 2020 were passed by voice vote. Then Prime Minister Narendra Modi called it a big day in India's agricultural history. At the same time, the PM said, the system of MSP will also remain the same.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted, "Today is a big day in India's agricultural history. I congratulate our hardworking breadwinners on the passage of two important bills in Parliament. This will not only bring a radical change in the agricultural sector, but will empower millions of farmers.


PM Modi said that for decades our peasant brothers and sisters were trapped in many kinds of bonds and faced intermediaries. With the passage of the bill in Parliament, the food givers have got freedom from all this. This will strengthen the efforts of farmers to double their income and determine their prosperity.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi further said that our agricultural sector is in dire need of modern technology as it will help hardworking farmers. Now that this bill has been passed, our farmers will have easier access to future technology. This will not only increase the production, but will bring good results. This is a welcome step.

Reiterating his point on the issue of MSP, PM Modi said, "I have said it before and I will say it once again, the system of MSP will remain the same." Government procurement will remain the same. We are here to serve our farmers. We will do our best to help the food givers and ensure that future generations have a better life.
