Controversial Uttar Pradesh doctor Kafil Khan called on senior Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi. He also wrote a letter to the UN stating that the current government was abusing the National Security Act to stifle our voice.

Controversial Uttar Pradesh doctor Kafil Khan, who was released from jail by order of the Allahabad High Court, on Monday called on Congress national secretary Priyanka Gandhi. Dr. Kafil Khan was lodged in Mathura Jail under the National Security Act. During the meeting with Priyanka, Dr Khan thanked the Congress for supporting him.

Dr. Khan was accompanied by his wife and children. The meeting was also attended by Uttar Pradesh Congress president Ajay Kumar Lallu and Congress state minority wing president Shahnawaz Alam.

In a letter to the UN Human Rights Committee, Dr Kafil Khan alleged that I had been subjected to physical and mental torture in Mathura Jail. Dr Khan also alleged that the present BJP government was abusing the National Security Act. Dr. Khan also alleged that I was not given food or water for days in jail.

Dr Khan was arrested under the National Security Act last year after delivering a so-called provocative speech at Aligarh Muslim University in protest of a new law on citizenship. The UN Human Rights Committee wrote a letter to the Government of India on June 20 this year appealing for Dr Khan's release. In the letter, Dr Khan thanked the UN Human Rights Committee.
