India will have 68 lakh fewer daughters due to abortion in 2030

Across India, about 6.8 million girls will be born less by 2030 due to selective abortion, according to a recent survey.

The report, published in the latest survey in PLOS ONE magazine, covered 29 major states and union territories in India. That covered 98.4 percent of the 2011 census.

In 21 of the 21 states or union territories with the highest birth rates, people favored the son. The highest number of people wanted a son in northern India. Across India, 29 state-level projections will see a 68 lakh drop in the number of girls between 2017 and 2030, the researchers said.
