Delhi violence: Tahir Hussain and Congress leader get Rs 1.61 crore

The Delhi Police had alleged that a Congress leader, an AAP corporator and others had received Rs 1.61 crore over a period of three months for carrying out violent riots in the capital New Delhi in February this year.

Violent violent riots erupted in February this year during ongoing protests in the Shahinbagh area of ​​the capital New Delhi against new citizenship laws and the citizenship register. Congress corporator Ishrat Jahan, Congress activist Khalid Saifi, AAP corporator Tahir Hussain, Jamia Millia Islamia Alumni Association chairperson Shifa Ur Rehman and Jamia student Miran Haider were found to have received Rs 1.61 crore for organizing the riots, police said.

Police said in no uncertain terms that the violent riots were planned. According to the police chargesheet, the investigation revealed that between December 1, 2019 and February 26, 2020, accused Ishrat Jahan, Khalid Saifi, Tahir Hussain, Shifa-ur-Rehman and Miran Haider received a total of Rs 1.61 crore through bank accounts and cash. One crore 48 lakh 1,186 rupees were withdrawn from the bank and used for violent riots.

It may be mentioned here that on the 14th of this month, the police arrested filmmaker Rahul Roy and documentary filmmaker Saba Diwan for questioning on the basis of information provided by them after the arrest of JNU alumnus Umar Khalid. According to police sources on Monday, the two filmmakers were asked by the police to co-operate in the investigation. Earlier, Umar Khalid was arrested under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act. She was questioned 11 hours before her arrest.

The police had prepared a 17,000-page chargesheet after getting all the details of the culprits with the help of the latest technology.
