Crop. Pakistan caught smuggling illegal computer equipment to Atomic Commission

A U.S. citizen of Pakistani origin has been arrested for exporting high-performance computer equipment and software application solutions from the United States to the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission without official approval.

Pakistan-based Business Systems International (BSI) Pvt. Ltd., while the owner of a Chicago-based company called BSI, USA, Obaidullah Syed could face up to 20 years in prison if convicted of the above illegal work. Syed is currently in jail.

According to the complaint against Syed, the two companies have provided high performance commuting platforms, servers and software application solutions.

Syed and BSI conspired with employees of the Pakistan-based company between 2006 and 2015 to violate the International Economic Powers Act by exporting computer-related equipment from the United States to the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission without the necessary approval of the US Department of Commerce, according to a complaint filed with the Chicago District Court.

The complaint alleges that Syed and BSI violated the International Emergency Economic Powers Act and the Foreign Trade Regulation, as well as the International Emergency Powers Act.
