A 77-year-old woman who wanted to study law had challenged in the Supreme Court the age limit of 30 years fixed by the Bar Council of India for admission in law colleges.

Princess Tyagi, a 77-year-old resident of Shahibabad in Uttar Pradesh, was denied entry into the LLB. As a result, he challenged the BCI's decision. However one case is already pending in this regard. The BCI fixed the age limit at 20 years for a five-year course and 30 years for a three-year LLB course.

The petition said that Princess Tyagi's late. She was left alone to defend her husband's property and eventually became interested in studying law. Tyagi said he had faced the legal process so far without a lawyer. He did everything himself, whether it was a will or a record.

The petition said the new rules violate Article 14 (all equal before the law) of the Constitution, Article 19 (1) (g) (right to any trade, occupation or business) and Article 21 (protection of personal liberty and life). The princess appealed to the court to declare that she has a fundamental right to study in a college or educational institution of her choice and that right is protected under Article 21 of the Constitution.
