The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had submitted a list of 44 pages to Facebook ahead of the Lok Sabha elections in January 2019, some of which it complained about and requested to be shut down. Such pages included journalist Ravish Kumar, Bhim Army and a few others.

Facebook closed the pages at the request of the BJP and reactivated seventeen pages that had been closed earlier on the BJP's recommendation. Facebook had revealed to the BJP that it had closed the 17 pages by mistake. The pages opposed by the BJP included Bhim Army as well as We Hate BJP page, pages supporting the Congress and some pages like The Truth of Gujarat.

Facebook closed the pages after receiving a complaint from the BJP. The page also included the pages of journalist Ravish Kumar and senior journalist Vinod Dua.

In November last year, the BJP had requested Facebook to re-launch 17 previously closed pages. Facebook reactivated the A17 page, saying it had been blocked by mistake.

Thus, the allegation of the opposition that there was some kind of secret agreement between Facebook and the ruling party BJP seemed to be true and Facebook was working in India at the behest of the BJP. The BJP did not vehemently deny the opposition's allegations, nor did Facebook.
